This Barbie is wearing the costume that is the single most iconic example of women's fashion in the 20th century. It was part of Christian Dior's very first collection in 1947. In which he introduced the New Look. " He named this two piece outfit "The Bar, and it was meant to be worn during the cocktail hour at bars in the grand hotels of Paris. Featured rounded shoulders and a cinched waist jacket, over a very full, somewhat long skirt.
"New Look" celebrated ultra-femininity and opulence in women's fashion after WWII. After years of military and civilian uniforms, restrictions and shortages during the war, Christian Dior offered not merely a new look but a new outlook of confidence for women in 1947. Note: The last three photos above show a live model wearing the original "Bar" outfit when it was introduced in the 1940s, a picture of the original outfit displayed at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, and a picture of Christian Dior himself with one of his models taken in about 1950.
Copies of these photos are not included in this offer. All doll photos are of the doll you will receive. It has never been removed from its original box (NRFB), and has always been kept wrapped in tissue and stored in my smoke-free and pet-free home.
I have been collecting Barbies for nearly 30 years and planned to leave them to my granddaughters and great-granddaughters some day, but there are just too many dolls LOL! So I will sell what I can and still have plenty more to leave for them.
Thanks for reading this very long description.
